Castles
This area of Scotland is riddled in castles although most are
small and often ruined. Ancient Duns abound such as the Castle of the
black dog to be seen by the Craobh Haven to Oban road, Kilmartin has
Kilmartin Castle and the dramatic ruins of
Carnasserie, built for Bishop Carswell around 1565 well worth a visit with dungoens and battlements.
Inveraray further afield has Inveraray castle open to the public
and the home of the Dukes of Argyll. Oban has Dunnolie, Dunstaffnage
and Gylen Castle on Kerrera three old MacDougall stronholds north by
Appin has castle Stalker on its own tiny islet. Loch awe has a number of
dramatic castles hidden on the loch.

There is plenty of places to eat and drink in the area Craobh Haven boasts a pub -lord of the isles with a good resteraunt , A short walk or drive over the bumpy road to the other side will bring you to the metropolis of Ardfern with a very well stocked shop Ardfern village store. Shellfish can be bought directly form the Offishell pound Lobsters, crabs and mussels. The Crafty Kitchen sells delicious hearty meals and has a very well stocked gift shop with treats for all the family and a good selection of books.The Galley of Lorne has a bar and a huge airy restaurant. The Ardfern Marina has a chandlery were you can pick up all your wet weather gear, and fishing kit
Further afield you can drive south towards Lochgiphead passing the Cairn Restaurant and the Kilmartin pub. With the world famous Crinan Hotel and tea shop just a few miles off the road
